Yamuna River Water

National News: The water level of Yamuna river in Delhi was recorded at 206.47 meters on Saturday with a slight decline. This level was more than 207 meters on Friday. Although there has been a decline, the river is still flowing above the danger mark, due to which flood water is accumulated in many areas. The pictures taken from drone cameras clearly showed the terrible condition of flood on the banks of the river.

Yamuna above warning and danger mark

The warning level of Yamuna for Delhi is 204.50 meters and the danger level is 205.33 meters. If the water level reaches 206 meters, the process of shifting people to safer places is started. This week, the river crossed the 206 meter mark, due to which thousands of people were evacuated from many settlements and sent to relief camps. On September 3, the water level of Yamuna was recorded at 207.41 meters, which is the third highest level till date.

Old Railway Bridge becomes the center of surveillance

The Old Railway Bridge (ORB) is an important centre for monitoring the flow and flood situation of the Yamuna. The official data of the water level is released from here. Due to the continuous rise of the river, this bridge has also become a matter of concern for the administration and local residents.

Many areas of Delhi submerged in water

Many parts of the national capital have been submerged in the waters of Yamuna. Civil Lines area, where there are luxurious houses and government residences, was also flooded. Apart from this, waterlogging in many areas including Monetary Bazaar, Kashmiri Gate ISBT, Yamuna Bazaar has increased the problems of the people. Shops had to be closed and traffic was also badly affected.

Administration on alert

Officials informed that the situation is being continuously monitored and all departments are in alert mode. The Delhi government and the flood control department have deployed relief and rescue teams in the affected areas. At the same time, the families who have been taken to safe places are being provided food and health services in temporary camps.

The water released from the barrages became the reason

According to the flood control department, 50,629 cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund Barrage and 1,17,260 cusecs of water was released from Wazirabad Barrage at 9 am on Saturday. The water released from these two barrages takes an average of 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi. Due to this, the water level in the capital may fluctuate in the next two days as well. Although the water released from the upper areas has now reduced somewhat, the flow of the river is still fast and the water level remains close to the warning limit.
